How do I join as translator?
Simply join as a translator.
Make sure you check the "I am a translator" box.

When is a translation project accepted?
Translations are accepted 4 days from submission or from the last comment on the project.

When is my account credited?
Your account will be credited 4 days after the translation has been accepted.

How much does a project pay?
After completing a translation translator will receive the number of credits written on the project page!
The value of each credit is $0.01, i.e. a 10,000 credits project will pay $100.
For general translations customers pay $0.07 per source word and translators get $0.05, i.e. over 70% of the revenue.
Please note that the payment per word may vary. Depending on the project the rates may be higher or lower than the standard.

• Translators may ask the customer to allocate more time for the project if needed.

What's in it for me?
One Hour Translation offers the opportunity to earn money, using your language skills by providing professional translation service. As a freelance translator in our database, you will be alerted automatically when translation projects that fit your skills are available. You decide if you want to take a project or not.

Expert translation

How do I join as an expert translator?
One Hour Translation is looking for expert translators in the following fields: Automotive/Aerospace, Business/Finance, IT, Legal, Marketing/Consumer, Media/Entertainment, Medical, Patents, Scientific, Technical/Engineering.
We pay $0.09 per word for expert translation.
Simply join as a translator. Make sure you check the "I am a translator" box.
Specify your fields of expertise in your profile after you register.
You will need to pass certification process before receiving any expert translation jobs.

Translation Rates

How much can I earn?
We pay translators $0.05 per source word, i.e. $500 per 10,000 words. For translation Review / Proofreading we pay $0.03 per source word, consider the fact that all of our translators are professionals thus proofreading typically takes less time than translating.

How can I get more?
We selected our rates while trying to balance between the translators and our customers.
We increase the compensation for the translators by:

• The more a translator works with us the more reviews she/he will get.
• Professional translation projects pay $0.09/source word.
• We take all of the hassle out of freelance translation, we always pay the translator (assuming the work was done properly) even if the customer doesn't pay etc. We deal with customer service and so forth.
• Working with us translators may take jobs that fit with other things they do.

Are there special rates for professional expert translation (Medical translation, Legal translation, Technical translation etc.)?
Expert translation pays $0.09 per word. Please note that customers select if they want standard or expert translation.

Getting paid as a translator

How do I get paid?
One Hour Translation uses the One Hour Translation MasterCard and PayPal as its method of paying translators.
Once the customer confirms that he/she is satisfied with the result, you will be credited according to the number of words you have translated. When you have reached a credit of at least 2000 credits ($20), you can claim and receive your payment through the control panel.
Once the credits are in your balance they are available for immediate withdrawal.
The base payment terms are Net+30 (e.g. at the end of the next month) but you can withdraw your funds any time you like prior to that.
Money requested prior to the base payment terms will be subject to a small early withdrawal fee.. Early withdrawal fee is subject to changes and is specified on the convert money page and will be stated during the convert process
Your One Hour Translation account is similar to your bank account in that sense, i.e. you can withdraw money from the account at any time.
On our regular payment dates (15th and end of month) There is no manual handling fee as payments on these dates are processed automatically.
Please remember that PayPal might deduct its transaction fees from what we pay you, according to your account type.

What is the One Hour Translation MasterCard for translators?
One Hour Translation is proud to be the first to give translators on its community a special Mastercard debit/ATM card.
Using the new One Hour Translation Mastercard translators will be able to receive payments directly to their card.

How do I claim my funds?
In order to claim your funds you need to:

• Collect at least 2000 credits ($20).
• Click the "convert credit to money" button in your Control Panel.
• Fill in your PayPal account and the amount of word credits to convert.
• Send an invoice to here with the appropriate sum (see an example invoice here).
• Click "submit".
• Using our Pay Day Any Day conversion system funds are paid every day according to the date you request.

What is PayPal?
Paypal is a safe and easy way to pay and get paid online. It allows anyone from over 190 countries and regions to pay online using the payment method they prefer, including credit cards (Visa, MasterCard and Amex), bank accounts, buyer credit or account balances, without sharing financial information.
You will need to have a PayPal account in order to receive payment from us.

What if Paypal is not working in my country?

Translation process

What is the translation process?

• Please take a project ONLY IF you can start immediately and deliver within the time limit presented by the system.
• Read customer instructions for the project carefully,
• Check and verify the word count before you start, if there is a problem, please inform us ASAP.
• We expect all translators to treat customers respectfully and professionally, regardless of how the customers behave.
• Negotiations with the customers about price are strictly forbidden! As mentioned above the prices are fixed.
• Any use of machine translation is strictly forbidden
• We are committed to deadlines - Project that is not delivered on time may be transferred to another translator to work on. You will not be credited for project that expired and transferred to another translator.
• Please note that the customer decides if he wants an expert translation or not. The translator (you) decides if he wants to job or not.

How does it work?
Our customers use our service to get fast results, so you have a time limit to submit the translation (around 1 hour per 200 words and around 8 hours per day). If you don't submit the translation within this time frame, the project will be re-opened for other translators and you will not be able to choose the same project again, nor will you get paid for the project.
Upon submitting the translation, the customer may ask you for corrections or clarifications. Your account will be credited as soon as the customer approves the translation.

What is the time limit for translations?
One Hour Translation provides Fast, High-Quality, 24/7 translations. We expect the translators to try and pick-up the translation task as soon as they see it in their mailbox. Once the translation starts there is a countdown timer that shows when it is supposed to be ready.

How much time is allocated?
One Hour Translation allocates approx. 1 hour for every 200 words in the document and up to 8 hours per working day.

What if the translation cannot be finished in time?
If a translation job is about to go over time, the translator can ask the customer for additional time. In most cases this is not an issue.

How do I respond to comments on the Private Board?

• You may communicate with the customers using the Private Board
• You will get an email alert once the customer posted a comment
• Please refrain from communicating with customers in emails, IM or otherwise. In a dispute situation we will need the log to realize what happened.

How do I submit a translation?

• When done please upload the translated file or paste the translated text under the Translation tab in the Project page.
• Your account will be credited once the project is accepted.
• There is no need to ask us when the project is accepted. Either the client accepts it or it happens automatically 4 days from posting the translation or from the last comment on the project.

Register as a translator

Who can join as translator?
Translators with relevant academic background and work experience are welcome to join the service. Merely being a native speaker is not enough to qualify as a translator. After you join you will be asked to upload your CV, professional certificates and potentially to pass professional translation exam.

How do I verify as a translator?
Verification process is easy:

• During the registration process, please check the "I'm a translator" check box.
• From the control panel follow the link to your profile page.
• Update your personal information, language skills and professional expertise
• In your profile page in the "translator status" box follow the verification link.
• During the verification process, you will be asked to for a human verification by sending $0.01 from your PayPal account or to apply for the OneHourTranslation MasterCard.
• After you qualify the steps above your account will be verified and sent for our staff for individual account certification.

Do you charge to join as a translator?
No. Joining as a translator is FREE. We ask for a payment of $0.01 (1 cent) in Paypal. We do this in order to link your profile to a valid Paypal account, so we can pay you for your translations, and in order to prevent fraud.

How do I get a translation project?

• One Hour Translation has a sophisticated project allocation system that approaches relevant translators one by one using email.
• You can also see relevant projects in the Open Projects page
• Please do not reply to the new project email, go to the project page and decide if you want to take it or not.
• The price per project is fixed and not negotiable, especially not with the customer!
• The price is represented in credits, currently each credit is $0.01.
• The time allocated for each project is also shown

Receiving translation jobs

When will I get a translation job?
Getting a translation job depends on many factors. In general we are trying to make sure that translators for each language pair have a chance to make money once they started with us. Thus, getting the first job may take a while.

Why is the job already taken when I click it?
One Hour Translation offers availability and speed of quality translations. We promise our customers that a translator will start working on the project right away. To guarantee that we approach several translators at the same time. The first one to pick the job gets it.

How do you contact translators?
We currently send translators an email, in the future we will also notify translators using text-message (SMS).

How can I get more translation jobs?
You can get more translation jobs by using our affiliate program. Simply login to your account and click the "Affiliate" link to read about it. You can place your own affiliate link in your email signature, Facebook profile, your blog, web site etc.
We give priority to translators in translating relevant jobs that come from their own affiliate link.

Translation quality

How can I become a certified translator?
To become a certified translator please update your profile and provide the required details such as CV, certificates, Languages pairs, LinkedIn profile, fields of expertise etc.
Please note that we will not be able to review your profile without an up-to-date resume and an updated list of skills.

What if the customer is not satisfied with the result?
In such a case, the project may be re-opened for other translators. This is the only way we can protect our customers from frauds and low-quality translators. If you think the translation was good, and there was some wrong doing (in good faith) please contact us and we will examine the case.

What about using automatic Machine Translation?
Please note that the One Hour Translation Terms of Use STRICTLY FORBID the use of machine translation of any kind. Translators that will try using machine translation will be BANNED from the site immediately! And will lose all of their credits.
